Her replacement was the Romanian Elena Mosuc ( again a singer I had not heard , nor heard of ).[...] This was coloratura singing of the hightest quality. The bottom and middle of the voice have a rich and slightly dark quality and above the stave there is a brilliance and clarity that reminded me of Beverly Sills. She sang with passion and clear , intelligent phrasing. Her decorations were brilliant and her high notes were accurate true and full-voiced. Her first aria stopped the show . She went from strength to strength after that. This was some of the most exciting singing of its kind I have heard since Sutherland retired. " |
